CRITIC REVIEWS

PopMatters

The vast creativity and breadth of Röyksopp’s Profound Mysteries are impressive. A suite of short films operates as a gorgeous visual interpretation.

Clash
A long time in the making, Royksöpp have birthed an engaging, expressive multimedia universe suspended in digital mystery, a sum of many components meticulously executed.

The Line of Best Fit

Profound Mysteries doesn’t quite have the timelessness of Melody AM, but it certainly lives up to Röyksopp’s reputation as a duo that has perfected the art of dishing out electronic hugs.

80
AllMusic

Less sonically aggressive than their previous album, Profound Mysteries still has something of an edge to it and its overall tone of ghostly enchantment makes for a strangely captivating listen.

75
Spectrum Culture

As the days finally grow longer, Profound Mysteries feels like it was dropped just in time to accompany warm summer evenings.

70
DIY
Whether underselling ‘Profound Mysteries’ as a standalone record, or over-egging its peripheral bells and whistles, there’s still much to enjoy about Röyksopp’s sixth.
66
Pitchfork
Eight years after bidding farewell to the traditional album format, the Norwegian duo returns with a sprawling multimedia project whose best material feels, ironically, like a return to form.
60
Record Collector
The four instrumentals lack Röyksopp’s usual concision, aimless rather than ambient.

A very Royksopp sounding record which is at the same time lovely but also a little disappointing. At this stage of their career you know what you are going to get and in that respect this is no exception and is a pretty, ethereal lo fi LP.

Okay but what we really need is a new Susanne Sundfør album.

Really interesting album in terms of it's vibe and energy i have to say some tracks are a god sent but sadly there is a lot of filler and the worst thing is that i propably heared some random spotify playlists that sounded more like a album than this. I understand that not every album needs to be perfectly lined up but come on that is too much randomnes in one album.
