The hushed vocals and distinctive sax of this Mancunian artist compel on an album with spontaneity at its heart.
Perhaps inevitably, given the way in which the album was created, there are things that don’t seem fully rounded or developed out. But this quibble aside, GOLD presents a refreshing voice that intrigues on every level.
Gold, the newest album from London-based saxophonist, composer and bandleader Alabaster Deplume is a wild listen that will take you to polar extremes. Some tracks float on by in a pleasant fog with gentle horns that transform me to an older time, while other challenge with more abstract compositions, eerie detours and spoke-word.
