‘Some Nights I Dream of Doors’ may shed the crudity that helped build intrigue around Obongjayar, but there’s enough here to excite the faithfuls and attract new members to ‘OB Dream Corp’.
Rather than rush out what we might have expected on his debut, Umoh displays the mark of an artist growing in confidence: the capacity to try something exposing and uncertain. Thankfully, he succeeds.
Obongjayar's distinctive voice and incredible energy guide his debut album, Some Nights I Dream of Doors, but at times it feels restrained.
obongjayar's long-awaited debut takes the sounds of his homeland in nigeria, western soul sounds, and his unique, gravelly voice, and gives us this ice cream swirl of an album.
and god, it is delicious.
i will say im relatively biased; its always nice to root for a fellow nigerian
but this is still very good

A true mixed bag. "Tinko Tinko (Don't Play Me for a Fool)" is a masterful falsetto bop. His guttural way of singing on some of the opening tracks? Not my thing. In my mind, this album didn't shift Obongjayar away from a singles-artist for me. I'm sorry to say I didn't appreciate the whole album.
