It’s rewarding enough to celebrate Autumn for what it is: an invigorating, emotionally potent update to Weezer’s catalogue.

The handful of quirks are a welcome diversion from, but are ultimately outnumbered by, the more generic material. If Autumn is the time to put on your sweater, then wouldn’t it make more sense to go back to his Pixies fascination?

The Needle Drop

Weezer has pretty much lost the direction of their own EP series on Autumn.

Exclaim!

Bouncing between out-of-order seasons, each of which has an arbitrary collision of sounds and styles, is a fittingly muddled way to present this confusing, pointless project. Weezer seem intent on dutifully finishing this thing — so let's bring on Winter and just get it over with.

Autumn is the third in Weezer's SZNS EP series, and it follows Summer which was a flawed EP, but the symphonic rock and metal elements made it a more novel listen than the very bland Spring. Well I guess Weezer is still doing this. For their third SZNS EP, they chose questionable songs that sound very familiar, yet I can't figure out what they remind me of. Most songs are pretty forgettable and sound like some quickly recorded snippets, that fans will talk about in five years being 'underrated gems'.

The real question is once again: did I enjoy myself?
OH BOY I DID! The lyrics are really weird and all over the place and the songs are all over the place. 'Can't Dance, Don't Ask ... read more

*Insert obligatory Weezer fall-ing off joke here*

The 3rd installment of Weezer's SZNZ is Autumn, and I feel pretty much the same way about it as the other 2 EPs as a whole. The EP starts off with Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me, which in its starting moments feels like a re-tread of Summer musically. It's a decent and upbeat opener, but has a chorus that feels like the lyrics were shoved together with little space. The bridge does get a little interesting, taking a slower approach and acknowledging ... read more
