Dork

‘Headful Of Sugar’ is a pure thrill ride of exhilarating speed, whiplashing from open-top car rides into the clubs from one track to the next without ever settling into any form of comfort zone.

90
The Forty-Five
The returning trio embrace cheap thrills and chaos as they reassert themselves as one of the best bands around.
90
DIY

Ultimately an exercise in Sunflower Bean showing off that they can do just about everything well.

90
AllMusic

With Headful of Sugar, Sunflower Bean turn the pangs of growing up into hypnotic, intoxicating pop.

85
Under The Radar

This is undoubtedly a forward-thinking album full of vibrancy and excitement, one that engages the head and the heart from a band who have always strived to do both, and it succeeds on pretty much every level.

80
Uncut
NYC trio get expansive and eclectic on album three.
80
Gigwise

Headful of Sugar demonstrates the band are not afraid to flit between genres and evolve into an ever more fascinating proposition deserving of mainstream consideration.

The Line of Best Fit

On Headful of Sugar, Sunflower Bean are basking in the sweetness of taking life at their own pace, ups and downs be damned.

80
NME

Using those feelings of helplessness as fuel for the fire, this album is full of enough strength, empowerment, resilience and joy.

80
Clash

Its a beautiful sign of the times - psychedelic and indie focused in melody, with poignant and important lyrics giving a pulse to an otherwise-relaxed-sounding project.

73
Spectrum Culture
The band’s previous albums were often very clean and pretty-sounding, but this new one finds Sunflower Bean exploring new ground using heavy rhythm and synths.
60
Mojo
Stand-out young NYC alt-rockers volte-face into '80s pop froth.
60
Pitchfork
On its latest album, the New York band works hard to sound effortless, hindered by inert performances and unconvincing lyrics.
40
Loud and Quiet

If you don’t listen too hard, it’s all quite enjoyable. If you do, there’s so much here that three minutes might just stick.

Flojísimo. Muy flojo. Ninguna de las corrientes que surfea lo hace con resultados satisfactorios. Se pone más rock 00s sobre la mitad y es borderline cringey. Me gustaron mucho los tres primeros temas pero irremontable.
