Despite this picture perfect setting, it’s inevitable that as soon as the orange sunsets turn to orange leaves, Funk Wav Bounces Vol.2 will just collect dust until the summer sun rears its head next year.
After a five-year wait, Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 ends up largely forgettable. There are a few groovy, disco-pop tracks that might be able to serve him a hit, while the others are repetitive and could have used more pronounced vigor.
The record is funky, it might sound good near some waves, and the beats generally bounce happily along. It does what it says on the tin.
The biggest victim of fan-capture since Misery’s Paul Sheldon follows up Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 with star names from Stefflon Don and Snoop Dogg to Justin Timberlake and Pharrell.
this album is a collection of the most inoffensive summertime songs imaginable. sounds like pool party background music
Calvin Harris spices up his Funk Volume series by matching up artists with others that seem like they wouldn’t be seen in a 1000 mile radius of each other. The result of this is mixed. I overall enjoyed seeing how the artists would interact in these tracks together more than I would if it was just predictable pairings. I appreciate the strong vibe this album has as well, going for a chill background vibe with a massive guest list. Not as memorable as Vol 1, but a valiant effort
While “Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2” isn’t bad and has some solid aspects, its overall just really inoffensive and safe, and as a result it ends up being pretty underwhelming and disappointing.
