AllMusic

There's nothing particularly wispy or ethereal about Shintaro Sakamoto's How to Live with a Phantom, but the former Yura Yura Teikoku frontman does do a masterful job of channeling bossa nova, soft rock, disco, and folk-rock into a '70s pop fantasia.

Maybe this is Shintaro's way of honing a new skill: playing with phantoms without tipping over into the uncanny valley.

Spin
Yura Yura Teikoku leader works solo on bittersweet, Rundgren-like ’70s pop odyssey.

The pace on How to Live With a Phantom is indiepop easy listening and relaxed about it.
