I just love his r'n'b neo soul sound and the "lamar"-ish flows . He has a smooth voice, great ideas with background vocals. He is just amazing

while malibu is ultimately a hit & mess, the focus and creative vision cannot be disregarded. strong features, nicely balanced harmonies and smooth, laid-back deliveries ensure an enjoyable neo-soul, funk record. the only problem is the forced genre-meshing and the fact that the tracklist could've been cleaned up quite a bit.

best tracks: the bird / the waters [ft. bj the chicago kid]

EDIT: I don't know why so many critics loved this album so much. It was very generic and has next to no replay value. Paak's voice gets to be annoying after a while, and the charm feels very manufactured.

a really happy and upbeat record, perfect for the summer of this year. anderson .paak is a wonderful singer, and he had some great beats behind his smooth vocals. there was a very joyous feel to this project, and i could stay focused throughout. it's not amazing, there is still some ... read more

i am not a big fan of Silicon valley nor Your prime, but other than that i really like this. I don't get why people call it messy or a hit & miss. I find it quite consistantly good and many songs are tied together with these little interludes which doesn't work perfectly, but it gets the job done.

First time i heard of Anderson paak was on the Compton album, really liked his singing on the song with Dre. Later on saw that he dropped this album and I gave it a listen. Man i was blown away how good this is from start to finish! Dope fking album. Props to him on this project. I'm

A bit hit and miss, but for the most part very enjoyable, especially the final two tracks.

An excellent summer release (from an Aus perspective).

The emcee/singer/songwriter/producer Anderson .Paak finally releases his highly anticipated debut album. Malibu sees the artist returning to some of his primary influences while he crafts some smooth, soothing tracks full of soul and life, and drawing easy comparisons to artists like Frank Ocean and D'Angelo. Malibu is a soulful and seductive work, but also an ambitious one, as .Paak dwelves into an-hour long tracklisting that resembles the narrative of recent great records like Channel Orange ... read more

A surprisingly refreshing effort from .Paak, full of soul and vision. Malibu is focused and controlled, full of different influences and genres but it all comes together beautifully.

Anderson .Paak manages to blend beautifully r&b, funk, hip-hop and pop in this cool, sweet and sexy record. From the top-notch guests to the strong and catchy instrumentals that invade you with good vibes. Some of this songs have an impact from the beggining but they can get a little old by the midpoint, since it feels the only thing carrying on is the vocals, even though, I never felt like I wanted to skip the rest of the track or something. Still, very impressed with this LP, I'm feeling ... read more

Anderson .Pakk is for lack of a better term, a cherry-picker. He choses styles and techniques from various eras and bends them to his own accord. On his sophomore effort "Malibu", all the standards for a neo-soul, pseudo-rap guise. 90's J-Dilla style Boom-Bap, 60's soul, tropical stylings, they all make an appearance throughout the record, and while they make for a pleasant listen, they also ensure that "Malibu" is almost indistinguishable from any of the slew of neo-soul / ... read more

honestly this is probably my favorite traditional R&B album of this decade (aside from maybe kaleidoscope dream) . it's a definite grower, but every song has an undeniable charm and polish. even though the alternative r&b scene is one of my favorite things going on in music right now (i gave house of balloons and blonde both 10s), paak's soulful take on the genre's roots is nothing short of charming.

Malibu makes me feel like I'm driving by the ocean in California with the love of my life. The sun is setting and the scenery is beautiful. I love this album and even when it's below 0 degrees outside in the city of Chicago, listening to this album makes me feel like all of a sudden I've been transported to Malibu.

Because of Anderson .Paak’s Oxnard album, I went back to Malibu, which is incredibly solid. Really happy I came across his music.

Anderson's follow up to the much dissapointing "Venice" is a fantastic soul-inspired journey into his experiences and accounts of life.

"Malibu" as an album flows like it doesn't even seem it's trying to. It's an extremely well put together album on Anderson's part. Each song comes after the next as smoothly as a soft wave from the ocean. Like "Venice", it has a fantastic summertime groove to it, except this time around the commercial production is left on the ... read more

Quite possibly the cleanest mix of Hip Hop, RnB, and Soul I've heard in this generation as Anderson's voice and delivery are simply buttery smooth altogether.

Anderson .Paak is easily one of the most charismatic and likeable rapper/singer currently out there.

On Malibu he releases some of the best Neo-Soul songs of the decade.
The awesome performances, awesome features and amazing vibes more than make up for the few filler tracks.

Definitely one of my personal favorites.

This is an album that I saw repeatedly on Best-Of Lists that I never did hear that year, and I’ve wanted to do for some time. I liked it in general, how it kept changing, and I found that I found every fourth song to be excellent (1. The Bird, 5. Put Me Thru, 9. Lite Weight, and 13. Come Down), with the last being extraordinary and an absolute favorite. It is the one song that doesn’t bother me in the use of the n-word, which is typically a deal killer for me. What does bother me is ... read more

Is it ignorant of me to call Malibu my personal favorite rnb/soul album?

From start to finish, this album oozes color and vibrancy.
The strong personality brimming from Anderson's vocal delivery is insane. From topics ranging from struggle, appreciation and love. The warm and catchy melodies accompanied with soulful, smooth and varied production choices were perfect.

Strong third album, better than Venice. Showed a lot of progression which is appropriate after receiving guidance from Dr.Dre along with 6 features on Dre's Compton album. ily andy

On Malibu, Paak doesn't overcome the "sophomore slump", he obliterates it. Anderson Paak's second album is grounded through impeccable production and intelligent lyrics, all linked through his now iconic vocals. From start to finish, Malibu plays like the greatest hits album of an artist who has likely yet to show us the best to come.

generic as it seems
album tries so hard to be influenced by the 80's and 90's and fails miserably

Excess fat, but overall catchy, maybe a little trimming on the tracklist for the at times tiring repetitive sound.

this is mostly a subjective score, but i really just can't listen to this album. everything about it just makes me want to turn away from it. it's overly sweet, stuffed with filler space, and his voice sounds like a creepy whisper after a while.

Anderson .Paak's voice runs perfectly with the cohesive sound of Malibu. I love the west-coast influenced grooves and melodies that are deeply rooted at the core of nearly every track. Anderson .Paak delivers very strong vocal and lyrical performances. Every once and a while, there's a track that fails to have that distinct groove that the rest of the album carries. But other than that, Malibu is an excellent album that is easily up there as one of my favorites of 2016.

Took 2016 by storm with Yes Lawd! and this album. The main reason why this album and overall artist is high on my radar is because of his voice. His voice is what brings me to Love his music, similar to why I love Chance the Rapper.
