New Noise

Otherness is pure ear candy, displaying an evolved sound from the post-hardcore quintet, while also delivering fan service for old school fans.

While upon first listen, Alexisonfire did not immediately grab me with their latest record, Otherness has been on steady repeat, shining brighter with each play for its subtle brilliance and power; ultimately, Otherness is not only among Alexisonfire’s strongest releases, it very well could stand among the best records of 2022.

Otherness is not the Alexisonfire we grew up with and loved, which is for the best given the results when they tried to force their music into that formula.

Classic Rock

Otherness is a grand return from a gang of proud outsiders.

The Line of Best Fit

Without losing the sense of comfortable familiarity, and the nostalgia that comes along with it, Alexisonfire have signposted a new era for themselves as a band.

Alexisonfire take a new direction after 13 years since the post-hardcore group's last release and incorporate a more Alt-Rock/ Stoner Rock inspired sound this time around on top of their classic sound. Alexisonfire are one of the best examples of their sound within the scene and the biggest change this time round has been a more increased focus on Dallas' clean vocals whereas George's unclean vocals are used more sparingly giving them a much larger impact when they are used on each song along ... read more

Don't think I've ever heard more inconsistent mixing - did they outsource the production for everything on this album except the final three songs???

It's fine background music, I guess. "Conditional Love" brought the energy I expected coming into the album. There's nothing overtly sh*t about the album, but it's not got much that grabs me. I find the production quite boxy, which may be what they were going for, but combine that with the length of some of the tracks makes for a less than ideal listening experience for me.
