AllMusic

Her quick turns of phrase and penchant for punctuating moments of self-doubt with colorful bits of impressionistic flair and left-field melodic rejoinders invoke names like Kate Bush, Nick Drake, and Sandy Denny, but the truth is, she's been perfecting her particular brand of moody, bucolic baroque pop for over two decades now, and with the marvelous In Search of Harperfield, that work has finally paid off.

The Skinny
A poignant but punchy triumph then, perfectly timed for mid-winter maladies.

Drowned in Sound

Answers aren’t easy to come by on the affecting, powerful In Search of Harperfield, and it’s all the more enthralling for it.

It’s intense and often bleak, but never a chore to listen to. It probably won’t break her out of the cult status in which she’s often resided, but for those who seek it out, it will prove an immensely rewarding listen.

The 405
It's within this variation that we find moments of pure ecstasy as you hear contentment within Pollock's delivery and lyrics while its accessible production style maintains consistence.

The Line of Best Fit

Harperfield shines brightest when Pollock allows big emotion to weigh her tempo down.

It's a shame this record hasn't seen more year-end love; it's really good! Pollock makes complex songs with intelligent lyrics, but the album is still completely accessible; her melodies are too sophisticated to be described as immediate, but every single one has been lodged into my head at some point. Stylistically this would be classified as indie rock, whatever that means, but any music fan should find something to like here.
