After a string of fantastical glamazon pop stars like Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj, there's something to be said for Jepsen's girl-next-door persona, which helps make Kiss one of 2012's best, and sweetest, pop albums.

Billboard

“Kiss” ... is the sound of an artist relentlessly trying to prove her staying power and transform the “magic in a bottle” into a delectable cocktail. The result is an album that comes on a bit strong, but has the pop pedigree to avoid any major missteps.

NOW Magazine

Kiss is packed full of genuine pop anthems, and is catchier than herpes.

PopMatters

As time wears on, Kiss will not be looked at as one of the all-time great pop albums. Yet song-for-song, Jepsen proves she has more talent than half of the stars out there.

Entertainment Weekly
It’s the stuff of pop fairy tales, but sadly, Jepsen’s time at the ball may be waning.

It’s not revolutionary, no, but it’s not supposed to be. What it’s supposed to be is a fun, catchy, upbeat, and infectious teen pop album - and in that respect it’s exactly what we wanted.

Rolling Stone

Kiss too often defaults to mediocre dance pop like the Owl City collaboration “Good Time” – heavy on Disney-fied thump, light on memorable hooks that might highlight her unassuming adorableness.

Slant Magazine

Fish shouldn’t be out of water and birds have no business in the water.

On this album, her voice is still her Achilles heel; she's a 26-year-old who sounds 16, and a colourless 16 at that.

Mediocre MY ASS, this is just a perfect collection of sweet, catchy, early 2010's pop music. And aside from the egregious fact that Jusin Bieber is on this album, it actually really slaps. It's not really a revolutionary piece of pop or anything, but it's not trying to be.

Also, it's cute. It's really cute. Carly's voice is cute, the lyrics are cute, Carly herself is cute. It's a cute record. But not like a pitiful cute, it's more like a "this album is cute as hell and I love it" ... read more

Though Kiss feels disjointed at moments, it’s undoubtedly a good album and better than it’s predecessor. Plus, it has Call Me Maybe.

I used to really love this record. But revisiting this album recently, it’s grown off me a little. It’s still a good record and has some bangers but at times Kiss sounds dated. This came out in 2012 and sounds like a dance pop album from that time. But at the same time I’m nostalgic for that sound but here it just doesn’t hold up.
