Pitchfork
The prismatic, outstanding new album from the Brooklyn singer-songwriter moves gracefully through jazz, R&B, soul, and reggae. It’s a searching and specific exploration of connection, pain, and desire.

Mojo
A little more focus could deliver a masterpiece, but this wilful mess is haunting, charming and highly recommended.

Loud and Quiet
The third full-length project from Yaya Bey is an exceptional feat of storytelling, as much for the ground it covers as for the depths it shows to be lacking in commercial musical discourse.

The Guardian
The Washington DC artist traverses a variety of genres on an album that tells funny, starkly wise stories of a half-together life.

For one, the tracklist. A lot of these songs didn’t feel fully formed or complete, and spreading 30 minutes of runtime across 18 tracks did not leave much substantial to listener between the talking interludes and short songs. Also, the songwriting on the first half of the ... read more
