CRITIC REVIEWS

AllMusic

Seth Bogart is even goofier, looser, and more fun than any record he made as Hunx.

80
Pitchfork

The fried garage pop and retro balladry of albums past has been swapped for a club-ready sound that plays like a fever dream set inside an episode of "Miami Vice": bright colors, buzzing synthesizers, chipmunked vocals, the smooth confidence of adults on the prowl for meaningful sex.

NOW Magazine

Bogart hits upon the most fully realized pop idol version of himself by embracing the demented, neon-coloured camp aesthetic he's always loved.

Spin
Not since the mid-’00s and his days as a backup dancer for cute’n’nasty electroclash band Gravy Train!!!! have we seen Bogart this groovy.

Exclaim!

It's exciting to see artists try and change and evolve their sound, so while it doesn't always work here, Seth Bogart definitely shows enough promise to make one wonder what future non-Hunx recordings from Bogart will sound like.

60
Loud and Quiet

Less hiding behind effusive vocal effects and more focus on an obvious ability to create brilliant electro-pop songs would make this album a triumph.

Seth Bogart plays with Kitsch and Pop in one of the more inventive queer records of the decade. Returning to this a few years later, it is still an immediate and erotic trip! Eating Makeup is a classic.

Can get a little grating at a few points with multiple listens, but a bizarrely enjoyable listen nonetheless.

I like how this album uses vocal effects that I would normally hate in other pop contexts, but work well in this one. The synth pop beats and guitars are strait forward and solid and there is an obvious weirdness to the album that keeps things fresh.
