I missed the point and story of this album on my first listen. I didn’t realize there was a story at all, actually. But once I knew this, and once I gave the album a listen with this in mind, I was simply blown away by the storytelling itself. Sure, there are several incredibly conventional songs on this album, and a majority of the choruses get on my nerves to some extent, but this all ends up WORKING in its own ways to emphasize the innocence of the main character.
I also think that Ptolemaea is at absolute least a top 20 song of the year so far, and it along with August Underground and Televangelism are an incredible stretch of songs!
