I don't know why I like this. I didn't like this the first 5 times I listened.

Then it just "clicked" on a tube ride home where I felt myself wanting to tap along to every catchy break down and tone shift.

‘Hiss’ is a thrashing, piercing, and relentless record from Wormrot. Having 21 tracks across 32 minutes allows for a scattershot of ideas to be put on display, but the brevity of some make the pacing inconsistent. However, this is clearly intentional, as their sound is constantly evolving across a dynamic range of intense sounds, all of which are engaging without ever allowing for a dull moment. The cheeky silence at the beginning and end of the record are perfect end-caps to the ... read more

I felt like my ears were being punished for existing. I've enjoyed some heavy albums in my time, but this one truly tested my patience and I just flat out hated it. It felt way too samey that I couldn't latch on to most of the songs, unfortunately.
Guess Grindcore is not my thing.

Wormrot are a band bloomed from stress and intensity, and their music has always reflected that. Formed after the band had finished their mandatory service in the Singaporean military, the band's roots are in that sense of urgency and force, members coming in and out over the years and Wormrot always finding a new way to work around things. Their first album in six years, Hiss sees Wormrot at its smallest size as a group to date, all the while making some of the most intense and dense songs of ... read more

Such diversity for grindcore. Nice vocals, nice music.. and very nice art work as well (it's not so important but it has to be said)

Grindcore is not a genre I particularly enjoy. However, for a grindcore record, I actually really like this.

The variety of different subgenres that this group seems to just morph into constantly through it's runtime is astonishing from a technical perspective, but also lets their feelings of anxiety and passion that write a lot of the music feel more gargantuan than ever. I can't believe I just heard of these folks, they sound like masters at what they do. Singapore doesn't fuck around!

Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of grindcore, but the score is objective.

"Hiss" is has some great mix of metal elements, with creative uses of sounds and many memorable moments in it. This album is not just a weird mix of stuff blasting at full volume, but rather a well-calculated journey with varying vocals and distinctive sounds. One thing really special about this project is the names on the tracklist, really creating a unique atmosphere for the listeners. There is a good variety of ... read more

What a cool album. I always enjoy a vicious speedy loud-fest but it can be hit and miss as to whether an album like this hits me more than that. This one does. Obviously the speed is speedy, the loudness is loud, the screams are gnarly, all of the playing is amazingly done. I don't need to talk about the base, it's good. And also I don't really know a lot of what goes on anyway. But above that, the extra things on this album are really nice. Firstly I love the tracklist. This is album is 21 ... read more

The first song wasn't my cuppa tea, but shiiiit "Broken Maze" & "Behind Closed Doors" SLAP. There's SO much speed leaking through every song, and I find myself enjoying it more when things take a backseat and become more Hardcore Punk, but when the meth injection hits, f*ckadoodledoo the blast beats and dark squeals give off mega goosebumps. I've said before that Noise Rock and Grindcore should realistically sit in the same position... but the first half of the album ... read more

Aoty for me so far. Amazing all around, the short song lengths allow for more ideas to be spread across tracks and the screams are pretty great

Wormrot - Hiss

First time listening to Grindcore and it was a hella amazing experience from sick vocal yells, to epic drumming. Yeah, I didn't have any issues other than the track being too distinguishable to each but other than that the album is great.
