I got a little worried after the first 3 tracks that I wasn't gonna like this album that much, but I was quickly proven wrong.

Honestly there was no way I wasn’t gonna like this. Thom, Tom and Jonny my kind of threesome.

A more soft Radiohead...I like it!

Will Radiohead ever return? If not, this will surely hold fans over a bit. Thom Yorke shows why he's regarded as one of the most consistent and talented songwriters in history, he dives into the archives with "Open The Flood Gates" and puts a new yet nostalgic spin on things with the bends reminiscent "You Will Never Work in Television Again"

A Light For Attracting Attention is a decent little album from Radiohead vocalist Thom Yorke, Radiohead bassist Johnny Greenwood and Sons Of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. I like the ideas this album brings to the table and it definitely has some highlights on it, but some of these songs to me are forgettable and sound like btec Radiohead songs. I think what this album does it does it well but it is just that select few tracks that I wasn't impressed with that are bringing this album down for me.

Had so many smart arse Radiohead quips to put here I literally couldn’t land on one. Very very good record tho, really enjoying it.

Dig this more every listen. The time signatures in this record and the way Thom understands how to compose melody around them, is really great work.
Still loving the punky 5/4 of You Will Never...wish there was a bit more of that if i was getting into the nitty-gritty..just to make it stand out a little more from Radiohead.

I love Radiohead and this is a solid release but in my view nothing to special. Alot of the songs just ends up blurring into one feeling and sound. The album isnt without many moments of brilliance but generally falls a little flat personally. Might grow on me like Moon shape pool though never know.

What sounds like a solid rating represents a really disappointing listening experience. Of course, Radiohead masterminds Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood are seemingly immune to failure, but on "A Light for Attracting Attention", which is sort of the follow-up to Radiohead‘s last album "A Moon Shaped Pool", they also don’t impress. Instrumentally, nothing surprises on this album and Tom Skinner fails to bring anything unique to the table. Mostly, the band repeat ... read more

Radiohead's latest - uh, I mean, The Smile's debut album is pretty great. Admittedly, it's near impossible to /not/ compare this to Radiohead's previous releases, as Greenwood and Yorke alongside Godrich's production already make up so much of Radiohead's signature sound that all of them workiing on a new project together is going to souund different. The largest difference, arguably, is the drumming provided by Tom Skinner, which absolutely stellar and really hightens many of these ... read more

This is really good. Great drumming and guitar work. Minimalism is really working well here. I feel the lyrics are lesser than Thom's other projects. Might be that I just can't hear them too well (or understand them). The song order isn't great, the flow doesn't work that well. This album is more a collection of ideas than a cohesive piece.

Good stuff, man. Essentially the tier/type of music I expected, but nevertheless, very experimental, interesting, and cohesive. Though I can also see why this wasn't released under "Radiohead".

Thom, Tom and, Jon have GREAT chemistry. They listen to and play off of each other so well, I LOVED their live streamed performances. The organic slightly messy swells made me understood why two of Radiohead's members are now seemingly doing Radiohead v2 with a brilliant jazz drummer. These talented musicians create something uniquely groovier, dirtier, and rougher outside of their respective bands. The smile is a chance to get it wrong, be less restrained - painting with bold expressive ... read more

“There is a smile of love and a smile of deceit” says William Blake. The trouble is that the two can be made indistinguishable. Thom Yorke resumes his neurotic, prophetic musings on a record that amplifies a call not for militarisation, but for the smiles of love to beam at one another. Vicious depictions of irredeemable but powerful louts pepper ALFAA, devouring hopes with “evil eyes and piggy limbs”. Poetically, The Smile manages to enhance both love and deceit at each ... read more

"A Light for Attracting Attention" has some incredible moments but it sounds like a Radiohead side project for many reasons. Despite the band experiments with many different musical styles, a lot of their trademark sounds are present here. Τhe slow paced songs specifically sound like cuts from "A Moon Shapd Pool" and are pretty predictable. Moreover the album is very inconsistent and the are some undercooked songs in the tracklist. The best moments of "A Light for ... read more

As someone who never quite got into Radiohead, this is a nice compromise with mathy/proggy constructions and mesmerizing vocals and synths.
