It’s Future’s succinct pop sensibilities here that give the tape’s woozy, syrupy songs the textures and purpose they demand, and as a result marks the imperative return of the catchy melodies and infectious hooks that merely laid dormant since the release of his sophomore album, Honest.
The project doesn’t feel uninspired, exactly, just rushed. The best songs on Purple Reign still capture that shivering, waking-nightmare energy.
While not DS2 nor What A Time To Be Alive, Purple Reign is an important Future release because it shows an artist continuing the work of discovering his best talents while also staying well within his own, now well-defined zone.
While Purple Reign is not a masterpiece, it is a thoughtful, if slight adjustment on the lens of where Future stands, at a crucial moment in his career.
Purple Reign stands as a fine mixtape by itself — neither his best nor worst recent work, it nonetheless works perfectly as a preview of what’s to come.
Purple Reign seeks to recapture the magic of Monster, but the intangibles that made the release so special have essentially disappeared.

.........Ok. Is that why you're so sad on this project? The streets are so big, yet included in all those people rolling with you is.. a white nationalist hate group? That's tough, man. Sorry. Hope that, uh, gets better. You, you uh, you wanna talk about Prince, or something else? Sorry, that was a dumb question, maybe I should, maybe I should just go. No, no, it's fine, I'll.. thanks for the music, man, really good, but I gotta.. I had to go ... read more
While this record starts strong with one of my favorite Future songs, a majority of this album has future preforming with super weak vocals when compared to his previous projects like Monster.
Best songs: All Right, Never Forget, Salute, Perkys Calling, Purple Reign, News or Something
Meh songs: Drippin (How U Luv That), Hater Shit, Bye Bye, No Charge
Worst songs: Never Forget, Run Up
light 5/10
Please, if you decide to listen this, first search a tagless version. The DJ Esco tags unnecessarily lower the quality of these songs

9/12. Fav Tracks: Never Forget; Inside The Mattress; Hater Shit; Perkys Calling; Purple Reign
Started off kinda weak, with a lot of songs being not necessarily mad, just very mediocre. But thankfully in the second half it picked up a bit and ended off in a good way. In this case I prefer the moodier and more atmospheric tracks, as the bangers didn't really impress me.
Also the extra song that is in the streaming version is easily the best one here. I'd actually recommend to listen to the version on spotify as the removed tracks didn't add to much for me and all the production tags got ... read more
