The album is a sharp, thrilling experience, and easily one of Funk's most focused works.

While retaining his sense of menace throughout Traditional Synthesizer Music, his umpteenth album as Venetian Snares, he also sounds positively refreshed and reinvigorated.

Unlike past efforts, this album is able to traverse from one end of the spectrum to the other without over-stepping the bounds of tolerability, be it of either tranquillity or squeamishness.

Traditional Synthesizer Music feels not so much traditional as a refresh: a suite of music that is crafted and ferociously complex, but at its root a pure and primal thing, high on its own chaos.

Traditional in essence it may well be, but it's done with arched eyebrows and a knowing smirk.

Traditional Synthesiser Music is an anomaly in the discography of Venetian Snares - instead of sampled drum breaks and unusual time signatures, this album features more mellow and somewhat conventional IDM sounds. In fact, you could say that this is Aaron's "unplugged" album - everything on this album was recorded solely on analog modular synthesisers, hence the name.

A different approach, in comparison to his earlier works, but still a great record. The fact it was recorded live using mostly analog equipment is also amazing.
