Willie Nelson had already released several album before he got to his first conceptual album Yesterday’s Wine and you can really tell. The songs found on this 1971 album might be simple, but still very sharp, as Willie uses the first half to delves into some genuine and heartfelt songs of perseverance & worship and let’s the second half deal more with this experiences of writing & performing up to that point. Certainly my favorite Willie album, but based on my number replays alone, a contender for my favorite album in country music, period. The one I put on when I want to commune with nature, or during long road trips, or just waking up on a Sunday. Goofy in some regards, but transcendent and true, spiritual but decidedly secular, warm and funny - everything you could want in a Willie Nelson record.
