Beach Bunny is a band that has already had their share of successes in their short run so far but with Emotional Creature they reach a high they haven’t hit yet in terms of songwriting and musicianship.

Dork
‘Emotional Creature’ perfectly encapsulates the Chicago-based quartet’s charismatic, cool attitude, pairing it with their contagious energy to create a whirlpool of songs.

Rolling Stone
Lili Trifilio’s deep empathy is a hallmark of the Chicago band’s sophomore effort.

Paste
The Chicago band’s second album is full of memorable moments and relatable lyrics.

AllMusic
Rushing through in a cloud of distortion and broken snares is fine, but a little subtlety goes a long way to making a band stick around longer. Beach Bunny and Lili Trifilio seem built for the long run and it will be fascinating to listen to them grow.

Gigwise

Beach Bunny’s sophomore album Emotional Creature sees the group finding their feet both musically and individually. The album is an exploration of the need to grow, adapt and change, finding beauty in the vast kaleidoscope of human emotions.

Growing up is hard, but for now, Emotional Creature serves a solid portrait of a band in motion.

Spectrum Culture
The Chicago band’s latest doesn’t need to be anything more than what it is: a series of great melodies packed with writing whose universal appeal is found in its blunt observation of the finer details of human relationships.

Pitchfork
With a newly polished sound, the indie pop group’s latest is a neatly packaged document of quarter-life angst.

NO NUANCE REVIEW

It’s an enjoyable listen but not a very memorable one. I think it’s an entertaining half hour of decent indie pop, but with each track sounding incredibly similar to each other it doesn’t leave much of an impression.

So many catchy hooks and technical instrumental passages, especially for a band more in line with bedroom-y sound palettes.
Not a bad moment on here! Addicting.

’Emotional Creature’ isn’t bad but is disappointingly drab in comparison to Trifilio’s earlier work.

‘Emotional Creature’ features the same bubbly, charming indie rock sound that’s defined Beach Bunny since they came onto the scene. It’s understandable why some may be sick of it by now, but it’s here in spades if you’re craving more, and I’ve always had a soft spot for the band.

I still love their lyrical content, tackling mental health and emotional tribulations that always feel relatable. However, their sound just isn’t evolving at all, making ... read more

Took me a long time to get to this one for some reason? Overall a pretty good album, had a lot of fun with it, the lead singer's shouty vocals don't resonate with me but when she takes that away, the last tracks are just amazing.
