An album that never loses its capability to surprise, from the very first listen, you know you’ll be coming back to it again and again.

Mojo

Pearson's gift for translating trauma into fine pop ... is a joy, as is her unflagging dry wit.

The Skinny

Katy J Pearson's latest album Sound of the Morning is filled with momentum, boasting undeniably matured songwriting and a fuller sound.

80
NME
Leaving the country music tag in the dust, the West Country star tackles tough conversations with toe-tapping tunes.
80
Uncut
Pearson’s clear knack for melodic songcraft is plentiful, across the breezy “Talk Over Town” or the sugary indie-pop of “Alligator”, resulting in an album that nails introspective songwriting just as seamlessly as it does infectious pop.
80
The Observer
Tripping airily through folk, Americana and synthpop, Pearson’s second album establishes her as an artist of note.
80
Dork
Choosing even a single song from ‘Sound of the Morning’ is a masterclass in fusing tones while implementing truly unique character and essence.

An album teeming with life - brimming with the joy of human connection.

Loud and Quiet

While Sound of the Morning undoubtedly develops her songcraft and expands her musical frames of reference, there’s a sense she wants to ease the listener along rather than produce a Kid A-style left turn.

AllMusic

Sound of the Morning makes sense, through acknowledging struggle and uplifting with a gumption and determination that's reflected in its design.

Katy J Pearson is signed to Heavenly Records, a lot of good records are coming out on this record label this year, Katy's voice and acoustic guitar sounds so that it always seems that she is playing nearby.

While often described as the space between grandiose, Kate Bush-ian pop and sensitive, upbeat folk à la Dolly Parton, Katy J Pearson's music is something entirely her own, owing much to predecessors like those aforementioned artists but never forcing herself into a box because of them. Given all the space to roam as an artist in the contemporary indie pop landscape, Pearson's music can leap from soaring baroque pop to naked and minimal folk to the occasional kick of disco, soul or ... read more
