As an instrument of communication, culture and information vehicle, the web has been proving itself to be massive. Millions and millions of thinking minds connected at the same time, all over the world, contributing to the construction of new ways of thinking, diffusing many different cultures and sharing information. Vaporwave comes then, anonymously-crafted, popping proto-tapes weird covers directly to your PC interface, claiming to be nothing more but a construct of this immense flux of ... read more

It has some really nice moments but others are just forgettable or messy.

Macintosh Plus’s influential album Floral Shoppe is in no way a perfect album but is in fact a foundation that laid the ground for far superior vapor wave releases to grace our ears.

Far from perfect, Macintosh Plus demonstrated a successful form of post-modernist music: A reinterpretation of cultural Affect through the process of copying and manipulating the music to emphasize it's construction. These are songs excavated from culture, and at its best, this album expands on the emotional potential of the original songs. 'Lisa Frank 420' is an obvious example, as the chorus slowed down contains a note of melancholy that punctures the Dianna Ross song with a sense of dread or ... read more

I mean, it's no Summer Night EP, but it did basically initiate one of my all-time favorite genres and draw a lot of people to it through the memes it produced. Call it lazy, call it unintelligent, but it is a nice listen as long as you don't try to think of it as high art.

lisa frank 420 was my favorite jam in seventh grade
some cool loops though some become either messy or repetitive. either way this was a stepping stone for not only vaporwave but meme and internet culture

When 420 play:
I wake up in a beautiful pink car. Is this a dream? I opened my eyes and looked around through a window. I noticed that the car I am in was floating through space. The radio was playing, my favourite song, This song is wavy, nostalgia, even though I wasn't born in the 90s, but I felt deja vu... of pretending to think I was born in 90s.UwU

Now, this is in no way a revolutionary album of some sort (apart from being one of the definitive records in vaporwave), but there's just something about Floral Shoppe that astounds me. I swear when I tell you that I'm not liking this just because of the meme. The aesthetic of the album just comes across as pleasing to me. The mellow, chill, and relaxing vibe of this album is what sells it. I am aware that the album doesn't really do something that special, but what matters to me is how good ... read more

all memes aside, it's definitely pleasant, but i wouldn't feel right giving this any higher than 70 considering how underwhelming the edits of the source material are. i don't think slowing it down and chopping it up every so often creates much of anything groundbreaking. again, it's a very nice listen and not bad at all, but on the technical side of things it doesn't do much for me. the biggest exception to this is track 2 (which i guess is an easy choice given its meme status), but even ... read more

Deserves merit for being a core pioneer of one of the most interesting genres in recent memory, though it fails to hold up.

While I enjoy Vaporwave for the most part, and the album has really stand out tracks (リサフランク420 / 現代のコンピュー ,ブート & ECCOと悪寒ダイビング) the rest is forgettable and slow. Given its meme staus I should feel bad for giving it a low score, but at the same time, its just not the masterpiece I was expecting,

The definitive Vaporwave album. Yet I feel slightly underwhelmed by it, good though nonetheless.

Abbiamo fatto tutto.

Do you like it or not? - This album has as gigantic an impact on the music as the best albums of music giants that have been refined for a long time.

Meme or not, Floral Shoppe is undoubtedly a modern classic wether thats a good thing or not I can't tell. Full disclosure as a music listen do respect Vaporwave as music genre and do hold it to the same standard I would any other kind of music. Floral Shoppe is the record that would launch vaporwave into the public eye. The record itself isn't the best out there however but still does have some highlights. For the most part Floral Shoppe is a sample based electronic album that even has some ... read more

When I first heard of vaporwave, I thought the genre was a joke, but when I dived deeper in this album, I can proudly say that this wasn't bad. However, the enjoyment decreased when I listened to the original samples, but it's ok to say at least.

WORST TRACKS:

Macintosh Plus spawns the whole vaporwave genre with this landmark 2011 album. Trippy, glitchy, and jazzy plunderphonics compose this album and makes this one of my go-to albums to listen to when you are under the influence.

Vaporwave is a genre I'm incredibly fond of, though it's less than humble beginnings isn't something I can say I find much merit in. It's stylish and unique, but rather flat in terms of editing, taking its source material and not creating much of merit. There are a few nice tracks here and there but besides that, the album is a bit of yawn and a groan.
