Musically, Van the man is still a force to be reckoned with when he is motivated and you know what he really really is now. Whether you agree with his sentiments or not (and for the record I don't) this is a record that has energy and some excellent sonic moments. This latest Van Morrison record sounds superficially like inoffensive fairground music, written with the wisdom of a fuzzy, stuffed bear and with only marginally less smugness. Since 2020, The Belfast Cowboy has become a musical figurehead in anti-lockdown sentiment. Wow you disagree with his views, who cares. That's not what this is about, and if you think so you're a shallow person. Underneath everything, this is about his discontents with *himself*. Listen to the last song. Yes, this is the boomer iteration of rebellion against your own angst, but it's still powerful nonetheless. You not liking this because of your political views is stupid.
