Hypnos has numerous highlights, but it works best as a straight-through listen, especially considering the way it's glued together with a few spoken interludes and similarities between some of the beats and melodies, lending a sense of continuity. Effortlessly cool and emotionally resonant, the stunning Hypnos takes Lenae's craft to a higher plane.

What she’s taken from her classical training pours effortlessly over Hypnos, an album that fits in some unknown space-time continuum, and gives Lenae a path forward as a unique breakout voice in R&B.

Pitchfork
The 23-year-old Chicago singer’s long-awaited debut makes a close study of R&B history, floating through weightless vocal arrangements with uncommon poise.

A gorgeous listen with a deep, lasting resonance, ‘Hypnos’ finds Ravyn Lenae rising to the challenge of her peers, and raising the bar once more.

Loud and Quiet

Hypnos is a colourful and other-worldly debut, aligning with its obvious influences but also way beyond that, capturing the same unconventional essence as Janet Jackson in her ’90s prime.

The Guardian
Lenae’s breathy falsetto wields lightness like a superpower in this glimmering sonic galaxy of a debut album.

FINALLY a new futuristic R&B album!!! We've been waiting a LOT since 'Take Me Apart' by Kelela; Also I have been waiting for Ravyn's debut for quite a while, always knew this woman had several points of pure talent. Manifestating power through 53 minutes of musical bliss, Lenae made her path clear, she's not only here to be an artist to keep on watching, she's here to teach many others what is like to step out on NEW levels of music. The production is truly one of the best of the year, she ... read more

Whoa… she’s absolutely insane for this. Already on her debut album, Ravyn Lenae proves that she’s one of the best artists modern R&B has to offer. HYPNOS has this strong 90s aura that reminds me a lot of Brandy's work (more specifically Never Say Never), but with a modern twist given by its lo-fi and neo-soul aesthetics. The production is very dreamy and often times psychedelic, blending beautifully with Ravyn's impressively tight and captivating harmonies and runs. ... read more

Melhores faixas: "Venom", "M.I.A." e "Lullabye".

A superb R&B album that I somehow missed last year, and this is one of the better albums of last year. Amazing production and heavenly vocals all throughout.
