This latest from Bartees Strange is just about as likable as his debut, and that’s no slight! The guy still meshes genres so well, has a knack for writing ridiculous choruses, and is all around so likable. The performances are heartfelt, the lyrics are punchy, it’s real solid! I just wish he took maybe 1 or 2 more big risks, and some of the softer moments were as consistent.

While the Bartees Strange debut suffered from being a little all over the place, despite its highs, this one is far more consistent, but with far fewer great moments. It's pretty bland

This sounded like something I wouldn't like, but I did like it.

I missed Live Forever in 2020, and I regret it; Bartees Strange’ debut was a whirling blur of indie rock, soul, emo, and rap where the careening ideas and terrific delivery showed so much potential that you could overlook iffy production, which still led to critical acclaim. This plays like a sequel: with newfound attention, it’s ‘now what’, where the emotional kaleidoscope spans winking flexes, imposter syndrome anxiety, overworked tension amidst late capitalism, and ... read more

Some really beautiful guitar work on here, but the vocals are hard to understand at times. Interesting and unpredictable song structures, and a bit of hip hop influence that makes it a really intriguing listen.

So introspective and embracing at the same time. One of my favorites albums this year!

Sounds a lot like Jeff Buckley at times, especially "Tours" and "Hold the Line." Eventually, though Buckley accelerated where Bartees retreat, and unfortunately, "Farm to Table" isn't enough to convince me about his indie star qualities.

His sophomore doesn’t quite live up to live forever, but still a really impressive bunch of tracks with plenty of different influences. Bartees has such a strong knowledge of such a wide range of music that he can’t do much wrong when blending

Pretty excellent and easily a step up from the first album, even if it's slightly less experimental. So much talent on such a wide-ranging project.

Never heard of this guy before, but I really liked the coverart and thought it could be a cool album so I checked it out! Gotta say, this was really damn good. Im a sucker for this kind of indie rock tbh, so hearing tracks like “Heavy Heart” and “Black Gold” was nice to see. Really liked this guys vocals too, felt like he was really pouring his heart out on these tracks! Its a really good set of indie rock tunes, and Im interested to see what else this guy can do. Uhhhhh I’m insanely rusty at this reviewing shit but just stay with me. I felt like I should say something about this album.

“Farm to table” by Bartees Strange is a follow up to his breakout debut “Live forever” which placed # 2 in my album of the year list for 2020. Not only was this an album that connected with me emotionally right away, It was also an album that effortlessly mixed a melting pot of genres showing nothing but incredible execution on all fronts. ... read more
