Despite the genre, this is an album that will appeal to just about everyone. Throughout these 10 tracks lies an array of audio genius, attention grabbing tracks and an overall addictive quality.

AllMusic

The Fat of the Land doesn't have quite enough depth or variety to qualify as a flat-out masterpiece, but what it does have to offer is damn good.

NME
The album rools. Shlock-tactic opener 'Smack My Bitch Up' is where convention demands we start. To hell with conventions, this is digi-rock!

Entertainment Weekly

What unifies The Fat of the Land is the consistent way it subverts the form: This is dance music not about release but aggression, making it ideal party music for the end of the century.

70
SPIN

Ironically, beyond clubgoers, only critics (who supposedly care too much about lyrics) may be willing to tolerate the group's complete car-toonishness. Howlett will just have to keep fucking with the formula-he's done it before.

70
Rolling Stone

The Fat of the Land is a thrilling, intoxicating nightmare of a record, an energy flash of supernova proportions.

The Sydney Morning Herald
In the end you have to declare that when Prodigy smash the can against the side of your brain they are awesome. But let's not overpraise, nor overdemand.
60
NOW Magazine

Far from the purported revolution in sound, Prodigy's The Fat Of The Land creeps cautiously with the sound of bets being hedged.

59
Pitchfork

Today, The Fat Of the Land is easy to swallow, even if mix of party-on and patriarchy leaves a strange taste in the mouth.

Beware the neurodivergent homie who tries to sync up their actions to the music playing....even ten seconds of Smack My Bitch Up has been shown to be dangerous πŸ¦€

OH MY GOD THATS THAT FUNKY SHIT!

Yeah, this thing goes hard. Sooo hard. The production is great, the beats are BIG, the vocals are very dynamic and everything just feels groovy. Breathe has to be one of my favorite electronic songs I've ever heard.

It's super fast, engaging, and very fun and creative, vibes on top of vibes and bangers on top of bangers.

I've heard this thing before, but it was a while ago, when my cousin showed me it, but I didn't review it until ... read more

Breathe the pressure; come play my game; I'll test ya. PSYCHOSOMATIC, ADDICT, INSANE!!!

The Fat of the Land is the third album by the English electronic group Prodigy and was released on June 30th, 1997. The album's title is based on an old English phrase, "living off the fat of the land," which describes a relatively wealthy individual. Also, the crab on the cover is actually a Halloween moon crab, and on the top left is a new logo for the band (They got rid of the "The" ... read more

This has to be one of my favorite album covers, also it's a pretty good album, I love alot of the songs on it. My favorite in particaul are : Smack My Bitch Up, Breathe, Narayan and Firestarter. Since I listened to the album, I'll finally say what has been on my mind for a long time and I might get hated for this.

The Prodigy sounds like a more old-school version of Death Grips in my opinion.

Matrix ass sounding album lol
This album has bite, drive and funk. Anyone can tell love and passion was put into the grimy, distorted synths and breakbeat groove. It does have its faults, Some sounds are too distorted and weird to truly fit within the song and the groove, taking me out of the experience sometimes. Not only that, with it being a EDM record, some songs can get pretty repetitive. Other than that, it is a perfectly fine EDM record, which is probably my biggest issue. For 1997, it ... read more
