This album screams potential, and it was doing great until the end. Then it got polluted with loads of filler, seemed like they had an idea but not enough material for a full length, do they scrambled to make something. It’s still pretty alright, I’m just a little disappointed because this could have been so much more.

This is good folk pop. I really like this. I really hope the the Strumbellas put something as good if not better out soon.

BEST: Spirits, Shovels and Dirt, Young and Wild, Wars
Glossy folk-pop music that is appealing upon first listen, but ultimately, derivative. The melodies and harmonies are pretty irresistible, especially in hit single "Spirits," but when the lyrics in the songs are parsed, they mostly don't mean much at all (with a few welcome exceptions), which makes me feel cynical about the effort -- it comes across like an effort to replicate the success of influences like the Lumineers and The Head and The Heart.
