The more pop/mutant disco direction here shouldn't work as well as it does, but honestly I can't get enough of this album. Doesn't hit quite as hard as World of Echo does, but this is one hell of a good time, with a lot of unorthodox moments at the same time. One of the greatest to ever do it, even posthumously.
arthur russell creates such unique soundscapes with such minimal instrumentation & on first listen it can seem empty but the spaces and distance between his melodies creates this calmin but almost eerie feeling at times. this seems to be as much as one can define his music, a take on a sort of funky/ stripped electro album & it isn't my favorite but mostly great tracks! he is undefinable but not in a way that feels forced, just a genuine musical enigma
