My thing with DGD is that their albums tend to grow on me over time. DTBM2, Mothership, Instant Gratification, Acceptance Speech, etc., all took time to grow, but I already knew that they would grow on me after my first listen of each because of how sticky their respective songs are. With Jackpot Juicer, while there are quite a few songs that are as immediately enthralling as their past work, a great deal of these tracks sound too similar. Rest in peace, Tim Feerick. You will always be missed dearly.

Dance Gavin Dance is one of my favorite bands. And I'm aware that some people don't enjoy them (yes, Fantano, I'm pointing at you, bald man), and if you have heard an album by this band before and didn't like it, Jackpot Juicer probably won't be your cup of tea.

Dance Gavin Dance are a beloved group in post-hardcore, but one whose music has been a big struggle for me to enjoy. Their overly sweet and clean brand of hardcore, with dizzying math rock licks, and screams switching off with Tillian's atrocious nasal singing is already hard to stomach for me, but then on records like their last, Afterburner, the goofy genre fusions only make it more difficult.
