The Line of Best Fit

There are two key reasons to fall in love with 2013. Firstly, it has an irresistible love of music, be that of the pop or classical form but secondly, and most importantly, it’s a record that as a body of work is one of the most exhilarating and emotional released so far this year.

Fabulously varied, at times unashamedly extravagant and with a consistently joyous urgency, ‘2013’ may be a historical document but it points to a very bright future.
The Guardian
He sounds not like a man wallowing in self-pity, but someone trying to scourge his soul in search of a different life. What a lovely record this is.
For all the theatrics, it’s an incredibly tender, accessible album, with sing-along choruses and musical quirks that will lodge in your brain for days.
Loud and Quiet
It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and initially it’s hard to engage with, but it’s an album that seems to care little for trends or fashion, or even to notions of what an album should sound like. Instead it is bold, original and proudly anachronistic.
Through it all, and sometimes in spite of ambitious arrangements, Jones proves himself to have a way with poignancy and yearning melodies that stick.
The more you listen, the more you start to learn this is not an album of ‘Eleanor Rigby’s; it’s an album of ‘A Day in the Life’s.

Best new-to-me live act of the year. A kaleidoscope of songs, the love child of Bryan Ferry and Freddie Mercury.
