Gigwise

Courting have proven they're adept at changing whenever the mood takes them, and Guitar Music shows off their strengths in one of the most exciting debuts this year so far. One thing is for sure. These guys are pop stars.

DIY
A thematically poignant, lyrically sharp and sonically surprising statement piece.

God Is in the TV
Overall, Courting’s debut effort can be described in many different ways, but as I put it in my opening paragraph, a good debut indie album is memorable, and that is the perfect way to describe this album.

Clash
Courting have redefined guitar music. Instead of using the guitar as a songwriting tool, they use it as a weapon.

NME
By laying waste to the conventions of indie music, the Liverpool band have arrived with one of the most rewarding debut albums of the year.

AllMusic
Only time will tell, but at this point Courting are delivering some smart, bracing fun that will keep you guessing in plenty of good ways.

I be on the Courtship

This is great. It's nice to get some solid Post Punk, it feels like it hasn't been as present this year. Anyways, the lyrics on this project are a real highlight for me. Lines like, "I think me and Kanye might still have sex" are shocking, but not eye rolling, and I love it. The overall cleverness of the writing is a very engaging element. The sound of the project is generally what I expected, but the more electronic elements were a nice inclusion that helped it ... read more

Courting's debut album Guitar Music is an expansive palate of punchy back-to-back bangers. It is one of the most daring and ambitious debuts this year with its delectable blend of post-punk, noise pop, garage rock, and glitch pop, just to name a few. They built upon their mostly post-punk sound from before and sprinkled in some stuff that elevates this project. There's even a glitchy midwest emo track here. As short as it may be, Guitar Music still shows this band's potential and willingness to ... read more

The boys put out an absolute rocking debut. Courting show a wide range over just eight tracks. The nearly nine minute Uncanny Valley Forever is a musical exploration that shows off the band’s ability to incorporate many different sounds into tracks. The lyrics are top notch across the project as well. Numerous witty and self-aware lines all throughout. This is exactly what I wanted from Courting and look forward to listening to this album a lot. My only gripe is how few new songs are on ... read more

Well to be fair to them they've stopped trying to be sports team so much, unfortunately what they have ended up being is quite shit. There's a couple of alright tracks, tennis is decent enough and there's the basis of a really good track in PDA but they can't finish it at all. The rest is really a pretty tough lineup, especially the opener

Its a short and sweet debut that points to a bright future for these guys. I absolutely adore the noisey production and Uncanny Valley is one of the best songs I have heard all year. The only thing draggin it down is the few cuts that are more straightforward dance punk. Good debut
