Regardless of the usual hate towards one of my favorite producers in UK history, Mura Masa proves himself once again with now his BEST album to date. Finally the debut album has a successor, this time around mixing hyperpop, uk bass, edm, dancehall and many other genres; Mura brought EXCELLENCE to his work, with a list of amazing collabs that are all rising UK legends, I'm here for it. Also this might be my favorite electronic projects of the whole year, everything is fluid and exudes musical ... read more

I appreciate Mura Masa going for a different approach on every album but I think demon time has him pulling the ideas from his contemporaries and influences way more than his previous releases.

demon time has great songs on it, but for nearly every song I was thinking
“Oh this sounds like a ____ song” or “He clearly was listening to ____ when he made this beat”.

It does show of his talents as a producer to be able to make such a range of songs but it doesn’t show ... read more

This record is the definition of okay. It's not bad at all, but it's not very good either. The problem of albums like this one is that they try to incorporate as many styles as possible (from the neoperreo in "tonto" to the drill in "bbycakes", from the digicore in "slomo" to the 2-step in "e-motions") just to set a nice vibe but a vibe that never concretises because it doesn't do that much to distinguish itself. It's very fun and there are lots of jamzzz ... read more

I really really like this album. Some of the most refreshing tracks I've heard this year. Every song on this album is great, and each song has it's own personality and uniqueness. The features are so good and they fit the production style so good, even if it's not the feature's original genre. The track list is very thoughtful and the album felt too short with a taste for more. much more. I only heard one Mura Masa song before this album, bbycakes, and I instantly knew this will be one of my ... read more

The chaotic atmosphere of 'demon time' allows each of its tracks to shine when it's needed and shows us a much more casual and less ambitious Mura Masa, who's here just looking to experiment with the diversity of genres already explored by him during his career, such as hyperpop & UK Bass, and playing with a solid team of featured artists. It's a very enjoyable record and an easy-listening that showcases his ups and downs as a producer– mainly highlighting his major hits than his ... read more

when i saw the collaborators featured here, i must say i braced myself for what i thought would be a brilliant, memorable ride... only for the record to turn out being really nothing special

while his talents as a producer do shine through and all of the songs here sound very clean and dynamic, travelling through house beats to glitch hop, all tied together under a bright and colorful hyperpop atmosphere, none of these songs really reach any high point or climax, and the entire project as a ... read more

"Well, it's official, Mura Masa is 3 for 3 in almost completely changing up their sound from album to album. This project finds Mura Masa with a more glitchy/hyperpop influence and ended up falling in between his last two albums in terms of my personal preference. With lots of quick tracks and a slew of vocal features, "demon time" is quite the tonal shift from the rest of his discography. In the end, most tracks were pretty much just ok, with no real star-power in the ... read more

I honestly don't feel much towards this album, in my opinion it felt more like a compilation of songs than a cohesive album which I guess is the point, but I'm not sure it works in the albums favor. LP felt like a rollercoaster with some amazing highs and some low lows, but "bbycakes" and "hollaback bitch" are the two highlights for me. Overall it was fine, but nothing too amazing.

It is quite a fun album to listen to and with interesting collaborations, something that also raises points for this album is its duration and sweetness, but I feel that it lacks a lot to be a remarkable or very enjoyable album at the level of future nostalgia, for example, another album pop that I had fun with and made me want to dance like this but to a lesser extent demon time.

best tracks: up all week, emotions, bbycakes
worts track: 2gether (sorry it doesn't go with the vibe of the album)

There's no consistency, some tracks are great because the girls are the ones who bring life into this mess and some just plain horrible mostly because the flows, the singing and the beats don't go well together, specially the ones with no features. I thought I would have to listen to it more but no, I don't what to.

This album felt a lot longer than 29 minutes due to the sheer boredom I gained from these tracks. Minus maybe 1 or 2 tracks, Mura Masa's new album Demon Time is essentially a bunch of bog standard run of the mill Glitch Hop tracks that are really uninteresting and boring. I don't think the features are utilised very well and the production on this album is not great either. I might not be huge on Mura Masa's sound but I didn't see anything that unique or interesting about his sound it just ... read more

it’s demon time, i guess!

mura masa is a huge hit or miss situation for me. he has produced some of my favorite songs ever (1 night with charli xcx, i don’t think i can do this again with clairo, oklou’s entertnmnt…) but he has never been an album type of artist for me. there’s people that when they announce an album, i collectively lose my shit. mura is not one of them and that’s fine with me because i always tend to gravitate more towards the singles that ... read more

The Guardian critic's review got me rolling, go mourn about "the" Queen or something.
It wasn't THIS bad of an experience, au contraire, it was great..

Anyhoo, my condolences to the Royal Family.

Mura Masa peaked during their debut. Not a fan of the features and direction they've taken in the last record, and especially this record. It's odd because I absolutely love the direction they've gone in with PinkPantheress on her stuff but this doesn't do anything for me at all.

A fun, but oddly paced and somewhat derivative album. Like it has some solid bops, but a decent amount of tracks either falter from the strangely sloppy form of hyperpop it takes, to your odd weird feature (the fuck is uzi doing on a song with shygirl and pinkpantheress?). It’s definitely a “playlist album” where you’ll pick out the clear highlights and avoiding the lesser tracks. All in all, a solid time, but it’s consistent teeter totter quality makes for an ... read more

I apologize in advance for the harsh words you're going to read... sooo THIS is considered Hyperpop? More like Lazypop. There are too many songs on that album that are underwritten and/or don't stick at all. Except for the prada song with LEILAH which is the only real bop on demon time. It's a shame that talented guests like Shygirl, PinkPantheress, slowthai and Channel Tres are unable to save these tracks that are mostly devoid of any personality. Listen to Gupi, "you're it" is a ... read more

El proyecto más aburrido de Mura Masa que recuerde. No termino de conectar con ninguna de las canciones, los invitados ni las producciones.

a fairly fun album, although the tracks themselves are a bit hit or miss. some tracks stray a bit too far into the territory of "annoying" to be truly enjoyable, but there are certainly some bops as well.
