This record is the definition of okay. It's not bad at all, but it's not very good either. The problem of albums like this one is that they try to incorporate as many styles as possible (from the neoperreo in "tonto" to the drill in "bbycakes", from the digicore in "slomo" to the 2-step in "e-motions") just to set a nice vibe but a vibe that never concretises because it doesn't do that much to distinguish itself. It's very fun and there are lots of jamzzz ... read more

a fairly fun album, although the tracks themselves are a bit hit or miss. some tracks stray a bit too far into the territory of "annoying" to be truly enjoyable, but there are certainly some bops as well.

I’ve covered three projects from Mura Masa, and with another prominent stylistic shift I think it’s fair to say that Alex Crossan has a bit of an identity crisis. In this case, it’s future bass that we’ve heard better 3-5 years ago blended with the lingering 2000s nostalgia now manifesting as stiff and increasingly simplistic loops that ditches much of the organic texture and groove that had real potential!

It’s where any deeper deflection or lyrical ... read more

It is quite a fun album to listen to and with interesting collaborations, something that also raises points for this album is its duration and sweetness, but I feel that it lacks a lot to be a remarkable or very enjoyable album at the level of future nostalgia, for example, another album pop that I had fun with and made me want to dance like this but to a lesser extent demon time.

best tracks: up all week, emotions, bbycakes
worts track: 2gether (sorry it doesn't go with the vibe of the album)

A bit of a mixed grab-bag of a project, but I still liked some songs on this thing

Least Favorites: blessing me, tonto

im not that into hyperpop to be honest... but i for sure enjoyed listening to this...
i kinda got mixed emotions listening to "e-motions" and it has some dnb drums that i really loved.

I was not sold by the title track at all. Going further into the album, *sigh*. Sure it sounds like fun in the most part, but there's so many production choices that completely detract me from the numbers as a whole. "2gether" is what I expected and wished I got for all the tracks. I'm not exactly impressed by it.

This album is slightly underrated, because bbycakes, prada, hollaback bitch and e-motions are just incredibly fun

"Well, it's official, Mura Masa is 3 for 3 in almost completely changing up their sound from album to album. This project finds Mura Masa with a more glitchy/hyperpop influence and ended up falling in between his last two albums in terms of my personal preference. With lots of quick tracks and a slew of vocal features, "demon time" is quite the tonal shift from the rest of his discography. In the end, most tracks were pretty much just ok, with no real star-power in the ... read more

There's no consistency, some tracks are great because the girls are the ones who bring life into this mess and some just plain horrible mostly because the flows, the singing and the beats don't go well together, specially the ones with no features. I thought I would have to listen to it more but no, I don't what to.

Leans into the generic contemporary sound a little too often for a producer who’s far more interesting than that, but damn if Bbycakes and e-motions arn’t absolute bangers.

This album felt a lot longer than 29 minutes due to the sheer boredom I gained from these tracks. Minus maybe 1 or 2 tracks, Mura Masa's new album Demon Time is essentially a bunch of bog standard run of the mill Glitch Hop tracks that are really uninteresting and boring. I don't think the features are utilised very well and the production on this album is not great either. I might not be huge on Mura Masa's sound but I didn't see anything that unique or interesting about his sound it just ... read more

it’s demon time, i guess!

mura masa is a huge hit or miss situation for me. he has produced some of my favorite songs ever (1 night with charli xcx, i don’t think i can do this again with clairo, oklou’s entertnmnt…) but he has never been an album type of artist for me. there’s people that when they announce an album, i collectively lose my shit. mura is not one of them and that’s fine with me because i always tend to gravitate more towards the singles that ... read more

The chaotic atmosphere of 'demon time' allows each of its tracks to shine when it's needed and shows us a much more casual and less ambitious Mura Masa, who's here just looking to experiment with the diversity of genres already explored by him during his career, such as hyperpop & UK Bass, and playing with a solid team of featured artists. It's a very enjoyable record and an easy-listening that showcases his ups and downs as a producer– mainly highlighting his major hits than his ... read more
