MIKE PATTON | 3/43

Picking up where we left off on the Mike Patton journey, after a very successful album release and a very successful coinciding tour for 1989’s The Real Thing, Mike thought he’d return to childhood band Mr Bungle and release their debut which, to put it plainly, was chalk full of some of Patton’s zaniest ideas and singing. I bring this up because in late 1991, early 1992 his breakthrough band, the one I discuss now, was headed back to the dark chambers of ... read more

Mike Patton Project: #3 (RE-REDO)

OK, this is the LAST time I'll change this rating and review, hopefully.

Man I love Faith no More. This is such an amazing band I feel I need to talk about every member individually. This is the exact kind of album I'd never thought I'd enjoy. Alternative metal with funk grooves doesn't exactly scream my type of music -- it sounded like a type of genre that would prioritize flash over quality songs. My dad LOVES Faith No More and you know, it very much does sound like dad music. But, it's still good.

Some good grooves here, most of the tracks weren't metal in the slightest, but hey.

Also, some of the lyrics were a little weird, and I didn't really enjoy them, I think that is one of the weaker points of this album. The instrumentation is mostly good and the vocals, outside of a few boring performances are solid as well.

Already growing on me a day later.
[EDIT 9/20/22: 75 -> 80]
Definite improvement from the previous record. Still slowly getting FNM but so far this has been my favorite record.
