Drowned in Sound

Following more in the footsteps of Ought and Vietcong than other Scandi bands, (but still veering off enough to carve out their own identity), Yung's debut is unflinchingly bold and as confident as you'll find. The verve and brashness on display on A Youthful Dream is counterweighted by maturity and tenderness, making this an album to drink, dance, fight, forget and remember to all at once.

Clinging to the past and dreaming about the future, Yung try and find peace on ‘A Youthful Dream’. Haunting, intoxicating and crystal clear, the record is both sad it’s over and excited that things haven’t even begun.
What appears on the surface to be a garage band is actually led by a post-punk savant. Yung is that band.

Yung’s passion is never in question throughout A Youthful Dream; but at times, it’s all they’ve got.

Under The Radar
It's a record awash in choppy guitars and riffs straight out of The Replacements' playbook, but it is also one that encapsulates the conflict between "pop" and "punk" by never really settling on either and jarring as it veers between the two.
It has to be said that the overall experience is far from Yung's magnum opus, but it is the sound of a young band finding its feet in a meaningful way, breaking down past experiences, and creating a record that isn't restricted by preexisting ideas of youth
The Guardian
It’s polite punk: impossible to feel either alarmed or electrified by, but an appealingly ghostly listen nonetheless.
The Line of Best Fit
So many of the songs here are meandering, formless things, which either sit idly upon one or two frustratingly basic riffs, or make half-arsed attempts to crowbar a few too many sections into three stuttering minutes.
