Similarly impulsive and even more packed with subject matter and musical ideas than its sneaked-out predecessor, it organizes its patchwork segments into a more digestible seven tracks, even if they do play out like a continuous DJ mix somewhere around the midway point.
The band’s latest is geeky, restless, and stuffed with enough Barnesian minutiae to satisfy even the most dedicated fan.

Does giving this a high rating make me look silly? It probably does, but because I'm an of Montreal fan, I can't help but enjoy 'Freewave Lucifer f<ck f^ck f>ck', even with its flaws. It is the sloppiest of Montreal album yet, giving 'Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse' a run for its money. Slight return to form; at the very least, their best work since 2018's "White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood", which was their best in a long time as well. So needless to say the last decade hasn't been smooth for the band.
