I found this album to be so boring.

Amon Amarth was the shits when it came to nerd death metal pre 2010s. I haven’t listened to them in quite a while but what happened? I don’t remember the guy sounding like Coolie Monster or the instrumentals being so uninteresting. The guitar harmonies are cool, but these Ctrl C + Ctrl V drum beats and these goofy ass vocals over and over again almost made me turn into the Joker.

Not particularly surprised with the outcome of this one even though it’s my first experience listening to one of their albums in full, their reputation speaks for itself. Amon Amarth seem to be treading along the same lines that gave them their notoriety, but unlike groups like Converge or toe. I heard beautiful melodies in the album, but for me, it seems that it will be no more than an ordinary melodic death metal album. The songs are made in a very similar way. The album has similar drum patterns, similar riffs, and a fairly stable vocal performance. Listening to melodic death metal albums is enjoyable, but this album does not make me want to listen to it again.

Their sound and style has been a standard in the genre and a lot of bands wish they could have the notoriety of Amon Amarth. That being said, 12 albums and more than 20 years after their debut, you can tell that these guys don't know where to go with their music. Like, come on, this is an ok metal record, but they clearly showed us in the past that they have the means to ... read more
