Three years ago I called John Van Deusen my favourite religious artist currently working, having just released a stupendous pop/rock album that recalled Christian music's glory days in the 90s and early 00s. If there was any indication of where I wanted the community to turn musically it was that record. Van Deusen's artistry is overflowing with humility, reverence, and resounding empathy, all of which have escaped the rampant self-absorption and unapproachable piety of modern CCM.

Marathon Works as a strong closer to the four part series, and feels like a culmination of the previous three projects. Not only does the sound of the record embody previous sounds, but the content works in a similar way. Marathon Daze is a combination of existential confusion, frustration, questions, resolution, and all-in-all release.
