Favourite: MR. PROFESSOR
Worst: NICE (feat. Young Nudy)

1. MR. PROFESSOR - 9
[Far out that production work is so good. Don't care what he says this is pure hype.]

2. MEGAMAN - 7
Thought the flow was really nice on this, the production was decent, and the longer the song went on the better it got.]

3. HUNT (feat. Chief Keef) - 8
[Would have loved a big drop or something considering this has Chief Keef on this. Maybe some loud base or something as well, but don't really mind anyway still ... read more

At least when he copied Playboi Carti’s shtick on ‘Benbow Crescent,’ Cochise retained his own personality through fun, occasionally nerdy but consistently energetic bars. On ‘The Inspection,’ it quickly grows tiresome.

The energy isn’t always all there and leaves empty space to appreciate some truly awful lines and Cookie Monster impressions. One of my favorite aspects of Cochise’s style that originally got me into his music is how he juxtaposes nerd ... read more

Damn, this Carti without the playboi, but it slaps hard af. Cochise is having a great evolution even if all he does is having fun for now. Makes my evening full of energy, especially now, after work.

On “The Inspection”, Cochise is able to transcend the Playboi Carti comparisons for me and use that style to make a very fun and enjoyable project, even if it’s derivative and pretty one-dimensional.

One of the more prominent names from this year’s XXL Freshman Class, Cochise’s brand of hip-hop is an invigorating mix of Yeat’s zany rage trendsetting, Young Thug’s off-the-wall performative presence, and the relative ubiquity of Playboi Carti-adjacent vocal styles. Bundle these high-energy performers’ vibes together, and the result is trap in overdrive; with Cochise switching lanes as quickly as late-night drag racers. Early singles and mixtapes teased towards ... read more

XXL 2022 REVIEW #5:

Cochise is an artist I've been a fan of for a few years now. He always brings so much energy to his songs and it's so infectious. I think this mixtape is an incredible follow up to Benbow Crescent from last year. He gives you more of the same on this mixtape but also switches up the style on tracks like HUNT, DON'T RUN, and HALO that keep it from getting stale. I'm always excited to hear new Cochise.

Favorite tracks: MR. PROFESSOR, HUNT, DOUBLE IT UP, TURN IT UP, PROFESSOR ... read more

production is CRAZY

this is absolutely a step up from his last album. shorter, so it’s more concise. the production is stellar up to the point where some of the songs are the best produced trap cuts this year. the features are all great. literally it’s perfect in how it’s composed. i definitely think that THE INSPECTION has way more replay value than Benbow Crescent which is very funny because Benbow Crescent has WAYYYYY more hits out of it than THE INSPECTION. i also feel as ... read more

Cochise seems way more collected and comfortable on this project, and it's a fun listen. The album as a whole is wavy, vibrant, and while its all over the place stylistically, i think that this is one of the album's strong suits. The features are a good addition, the instrumentals are fun and glitchy, and its jam packed with bold vocal delivery from Cochise. It goes into randomness a little too much sometimes, and that drags the quality down of the album, but only a little bit. Overall, i would ... read more

I heard the single 'Turn It Up' but other than that I didn't really know what to expect from the XXL freshman. In fairness, Cochise is one of the better Carti copycats I've heard. A lot of the production here is quite nice but Cochise himself still has a lot of work to do to find his own style.

Favourite Tracks: Mr Professor*, Turn It Up, Finally

Original Review:

I legitimately don't know how I feel about this. Lol.

I don't have any problem with derivative music if the artist makes something even slightly different from the source. I don't care, rip them the fuck off and make something amazing, that's how most sampling is anyway. One of my favorite albums of all time is literally a bunch of jazz fusion songs sampled and edited and EQ'd to fit together. So yeah, I have no problem with music that blatantly steals ... read more

THE INSPECTION is quite a nice album that has a very good and creative production but too often Cochise sounds like a cheap copy of playboi carti which mostly doesn't do anything special. And also some song lyrics are funny for example :
"I make me crack, just like a fart"

I really don't like his adlibs at all, complete copycat of Carti's and really wish he strays away what he does in Megaman and starts rapping like at the end of Turn It Up. Also I dislike how uncreative the chorus is in a lot of the songs just repeatedly saying the songs title over and over quickly. I still think this is a great album as the production is unique and love how video game like it is, and he does have a good voice. I legit think if he removes the adlibs entirely this album becomes ... read more

Cochise saw half of the trap game's current styles and did them all simultaneously and better than everybody else.

Cochise sounds like Carti but with his own spin to it and sounding original at the same time. Fantastic production

Cochise proves he's more than a Carti clone. He uses the babyvoice delivery in a somewhat Young Thug-esque fashion with guttural inflections to keep things interesting, and rides some surprisingly interesting beats that are either really ethereal or really minimal. Interesting album for sure and I appreciate how short he kept it.

Best songs: Mr. Professor, Megaman, Hunt, Turn it Up, Professor Professor, Don't Run, Grind
Worst songs: Double it Up, Nice, Do it Again
