The Young Folks

HOLY FVCK is best described as a deeply personal body of work that embraces the pure, unmitigated beauty of a soul’s vehement journey toward contentment. And knowing Demi Lovato, they’ll only get better and better with time.

AllMusic

Whether it's a genuine transformation or just a brief exercise for the pop chameleon, the triumphant Holy Fvck is a refreshing change of pace and an utter thrill to experience for those willing to look past the headlines into the heart of an artist who continues to grow in the public eye.

Her eighth album is a rebirth that rejects everything – good and bad – that has gone before and embraces a new way forward.

The Independent
The tween pop survivor goes for the throat on an accomplished record full of anthems.

Holy Fvck is mostly just a fun, upbeat rock album. It’s not as “heavy” as many critics will proclaim it to be, but it does possess the ability to be catchy, anthemic, and immensely enjoyable. Most of the songs here check those boxes, making for a consistent batch of gritty, punky pop-rock bangers.

The Line of Best Fit

HOLY FVCK isn’t an album about holding onto trauma, it’s one about releasing it - and doing so in rip-roaring fashion. In this way, it instantly joins the pantheon of great rock albums centred around exorcising trauma.

PopMatters

Empowering and cathartic, Demi Lovato has created a refined and sophisticated collection of songs with Holy Fvck that is their best work lyrically to date.

Clash
Overall, ‘HOLY FVCK’ serves as brilliant proof of Lovato’s hard rock capabilities. Lovato suits hard rock, those vocals absolutely gorgeous when paired with a sturdy burst of heavy soundscapes.

Distorted Sound

Is Holy Fvck groundbreaking? No, but arguably it never set out to be. What it is, is raw and honest reflections from an embattled star whose time in the public eye has cost them dearly, and they’ve at last found freedom in their roots. And surely, that’s enough.

Pitchfork

Demi Lovato has long sung about rebirth. On Holy Fvck, she enacts it by jettisoning the pop-R&B palette that has defined her records for a decade.

60
The Observer

Holy Fvck has its flaws – Lovato’s powerful voice is unnecessarily finessed and Auto-Tuned, and 16 tracks is too long. But its gutsy ambition is a thing of substance in and of itself.

NME

The star harks back to their earlier days with this collection of head-banging guitar solos and ferocious riffs – though the slowies let it down a bit.

The Telegraph

Holy Fvck sounds like a genuine attempt to deal with a troubled adulthood and leave the past behind.

HOLY FVCK is a really solid transition into Pop Punk, and it feels 100x more palatable than someone like MGK. Demi has gone through a lot of awful shit, and even though I find them to be cringe and out of touch a lot of the time, the music is driven by a fire to perform and do the best they can.

The features are typical Pop Punk garbage, but they fit the album nicely. This is helped by the sound of this album ACTUALLY going hard. The compression on these songs is dog cheeks a lot of the time, ... read more

While "HOLY FVCK" is a decent transition into pop-punk for Demi Lovato, it doesn't come without its flaws, such as the usually pretty generic and cliché songwriting. And while this album does have quite a few good things going for it, the flaws here do unfortunately end up hindering the album as a whole a little bit. However, the album still ends up being pretty enjoyable and has some really good highlights, production, and vocal performances throughout. It is these qualities ... read more
