I haven’t really mentioned this band much but I actually like these guys quite a bit. They have some great songs, and I enjoyed their previous record quite a bit, mainly with the song Currency. This record is.. decent. It’s pretty aight. Has a couple songs I’d return to but it’s definitely a bit bloated overall. Leading up to this latest album from The Black Angels, I loved the singles and was expecting big things. And truthfully, they’ve come through with their best set of tracks since the mid 2000’s, which is crazy to believe. The tracks here are heavy, often political, hard to place, and easily the band’s most true to form material in years. There’s a level of authenticity to this that I felt they lost LONG ago. my first listen to this band and delighted with what I got. Super tight nothing overstaying its welcome. The lyrics, clearly important to this band, are at the foreground well supported by the instruments. The message delivered is one I subscribe: apathy is the enemy and if history is anything to go by we repeat mistakes. Stop It. Now.
