Loud and Quiet
Taken as a studied exercise in soothing, timeless pop it’s almost without equal, but as an aural escape, a headspace away from the modern world, it’s simply wonderful.
Under The Radar

While not discernably stronger or weaker than the record that preceded it, As If Apart burrows deeper into its maker's sonic pet obsessions. This is a work of accessible insularity, outsider pop from a tinkering songsmith who understands all the inner workings of the genre.

As If Apart maintains a laid-back, weekend-afternoon feel, but it never seems too lazy, as Cohen is clearly adept at crafting pleasant yet sophisticated songs.

The 405

As If Apart will still add a few gems to your chilled out summer evening playlist, but it certainly leaves a little to be desired in regards to the evolution Cohen was clearly striving toward.

Chris Cohen is the soundtrack for an idyllic summer holiday: the ideal accompaniment to lazy, hazy days under a cloudless sky with nothing on your mind beyond whether to have another mojito or where to go in the evening. His soft-focus psychedelic pastorales evoke a simpler time than the frenzied world we live in, and therein lies his escapist appeal.
