The latest from the Buffalo rapper is a lean, mean project cut in just two days, eschewing his usual attention to detail for a more ramshackle approach.

For those who like Hip Hop tailored for easy consumption, Peace “Fly” God is certainly not playlist-bound as a whole and may not command revisits. But for seasoned Griselda fans and those willing to sit with it, the project offers a few jewels worthy of becoming WSG staples and further builds up anticipation for Stove God Cook$’s upcoming album.

A kind of minor project from Westside that isn't without a few highlights.

I haven’t really loved a Westside Gunn release since his phenomenal “Supreme Blientele” record. This one doesn’t do much to change that. The features are pretty underwhelming for a Griselda project, I’m always expecting more heavy hitters. Stove Good Cooks had some great appearances though, felt like he was carrying some of the songs. The project only gets going in its second half with production from Madlib, Daringer and Conductor Williams. The first half was ... read more

Kinda below the WSG standard that I expect. The pacing gets back to normal after the odd choice of an 8 minute adventure in the beginning. But even then, I don't really get engaged until Derrick Boleman. Seeing how this is basically the closest thing we'll get to Gunnlib, can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed.

It's choppy and alternates between the inspiring and the mundane. The first listen was incredible. The production is quality, often snare-less but always consistent. The Prima Uomo-themed subject matter occasionally transcends the concept of illicit substances and the notion of musical ordination into lingering periods of clarity and elation, at times the rhymes achieve a very good level, but these moments are few and far between. You'll feel them immediately when those moments occur. "Big ... read more

A cool little mixtape that Gunn dropped earlier this year before his album 10. There were some songs on here I just felt bored by, but the songs that I liked were great. Which is pretty much a description of most Westside Gunn music. It's very hit or miss, but the misses are just boring but not terrible, and the hits end up being some of my favorite songs for a bit. Stove God Cooks is all over this project and he delivers most of the time so I'm cool with it. Solid tape.

Westside Gunn is one of the most exciting rappers in the scene today. He takes the 90’s aesthetic into the mainstream light of hip hop today. Sadly, he doesn’t have as much depth as some people in his lane like Conway The Machine. What makes him standout is his grimy braggadocia. In this tape, he isn’t mixed to his storngest ability. And the songwriting is as good as usual, except maybe less ambitious or unique. There are some highlights like Big ass bracelet and Derrick ... read more
