On the South Korean artist’s astounding third album, the past and the present, the real and the fake dissolve seamlessly into surreal, maximalist pop music.

After The Magic will stand as an impressive work in its own right, and additionally an ideal entry point for those who’ve hitherto not become fully engrossed in the “5th wave of emo” scene.

The elaborate arrangements and sonic trickery never distract from the urgency and emotional power of the songs themselves. After the Magic is a work of wonder.

After the Magic shows that Parannoul isn’t only a very good producer and musician, but he’s also someone whose control of his own emotional expression is so strong that you don’t need the lyrics sheet to feel an opaque version of what he feels.

Wasn’t crazy about the Debut. This album was very subtle and sweet. Varied as well. Super impressive

Parannoul bring a humanity to the genre which can often blur behind fuzzy guitar pedals and ghostly vocal effects, and it's a humanity which really is necessary. "After the Magic" isn't terribly dissimilar to ... read more
