Little did anyone know that they were sitting on a classic whose almost indefensibly lo-fi standards would reinvigorate an entire strain of black metal.

While A Blaze in the Northern Sky lacks the intensity of its follow-ups—the masterful Under a Funeral Moon and the snowed-out hypnosis of Transilvanian Hunger—it is no less of a revelation.

The frozen production and guttural screams are simply the purest image of how the world really is: perpetually marching toward the lonely end.

It's finally time for me to listen to one of the most iconic Black Metal bands of all time, Darkthrone, and their widely-perceived magnum opus "A Blaze In The Northern Sky". It's cold season, so I figured that it's the best time to listen to some Black Metal.

It's an excellent "Death Metal" record, a genre which was very popular in the Scandinavian underground metal scene at the time. This album can be kinda boring sometimes but I get the vibe and I like it a lot.
Also the mixing is shit on purpose but it doesn't mean anything, it's just trying to sound like shit, and I really appreciate that.

This album is f**kin brutal and I love it.

honestly just feels like a low quality death metal album. doesn't really feel raw or anything, and none of the songs stood out. Cool vocals and still sounds pretty nice but there isn't much memorable songwriting or any reason for me to come back to this. best song title track probably, the riff is pretty nice and it felt especially evil
