Everything he touches turns to gold, and if we needed any further evidence following Currents, he has shown once more that he has no contemporaries in a studio. One of the best records of 2016 so far.


If Koi Child’s upward trajectory continues at its current velocity, then it’s surely only a matter of time before the group begins charting a path to world domination.

Parker’s production makes all the difference. His signature is all over the record, from dry, compressed drums, scrupulous attention to a gritty low end, and swaths of phased sections applied across the whole mix.

Underappreciated record from this year. It's got some thick, funky jazz grooves, a laid back vibe, and dense, swirling production courtesy of Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. It simultaneously feels like a throwback to the mellow jazz rap of the early-90s and an increasingly prevalent form of live band + rapper hip hop akin to The Roots or Anderson .Paak. Delightful debut by american jazz-hop band Koi Child, who do really well under Kevin Parker's guidance. There is a bit of Jagga Jazzist going on behind the numerous layers of sound and colour brought by Parker's textured production, that bring out the best in the group's music. While there is nothing ground-breaking here, it still manages to overcome a massive tracklisting with all the good vibes running throughout the whole record, without overstating its welcome or sounding obnoxious at all ... read more
