while the proposition of legendary experimentalists converging to mesh each others talents is great in promise, like most supergroup records, melt falls disappointingly short of it's potential. at its best it's a really schizophrenic record (especially in regards to the way the distortion compliments the percussion, which ends up being the backbone of the whole record), chock-full of electrifying noise rock and sheer free jazz intensity. however, the record quickly establishes that it won't ... read more

The craziest album of 2016 so far is actually an improvised piece of free-music recorded in 2014 by legendary experimentalists Mats Gustaffson, Massimo Pupillo and Brian Chippendale. A well-needed collaboration from some of the most talented powerhouses in modern noise, jazz and free improv, but falls flat in achieving greatness through satisfying structures and overall cohesion. The record's biggest problem is the one that probably immediately catches your eyes first which is the length.
