I was extremely surprised by this record. Based on all the user and critic scores, I wasn't expecting to hear something nearly this good until I got to their album "Meddle" but it came early for me. I like the sound and the feeling of this album so much, especially during the first song, that I found it difficult to get the smile off of my face. I became so immersed in this record that I almost fell out of my chair when someone walked into my room - a bit of a jumpscare!

"Atom Heart Mother" is a well-constructed, beautifully produced Pink Floyd album that would’ve been one of my favorites if it weren't for "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast". It's literally 13 minutes of Alan Styles preparing and eating a breakfast I wish I could have. At least it invented ASMR decades before ASMR was even a thing.

One time online I saw somebody write, "Tell me you're a Pink Floyd fan without saying you're a Pink Floyd fan" and the top comment was, "Marmalade. I like marmalade."

A lot of the early Pink Floyd albums are relatively "meh", yet they carry a nice charm that appeals to me. This is an ideal example of an album that I do not exactly like, yet I return to it periodically. I understand why a lot of fans are unsure what to make of "Atom Heart ... read more

Behold, the true lyrical genius of Pink Floyd:
"Oh, um, flakes, oh... Then, uh, I don't know.
Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes.
Toast, coffee. Marmalade, I like marmalade.
Marmalade, I like marmalade.
Porridge is nice.
Any cereal, I like all cereal.
Breakfast in Los Angeles, macrobiotic stuff.
No reply.
Don't mind the barrow, I like burying the stuff in.
No, I've got a terrible back.

Even if Waters, Wright and Gilmour claim to abhor this record, (And based in that score, the critics seem to agree with them...) In my eyes, Atom Heart Mother is Pink Floyd's most underestimated and underrated album; it's not only an amazing album, but it is also one of my biggest personal favorites and it's one that I consider a masterpiece. It is a project that perfectly balances early Floyd's psychedelia and experimentation, with their later most progressive and more epic, culminating ... read more

Pink Floyd Discography #4: Atom Heart Mother

or

The one with huge milkers

You know, three tracks into this project I was thinking this was the beginning of loving Pink Floyd for me. The title track is a brilliant piece, long and winding yet consistently engaging with some of the most interesting passages I've ever heard from the band. If is an absolutely beautiful moment, a cute little folk song with some genuinely heartwarming lyricism, which might be my favourite Pink Floyd track I've ... read more

This is what I consider to be the first Pink Floyd record. The start of the 70s. A few years before they completely changed the world of music. This is in my eyes, where it all began. Don't get me wrong, the projects before this were cool, but even starting off with the title track, it's a 24-minute song with like 5 different song passages all flowing through each other seamlessly. Yes, I wish the track had vocals or was perhaps a little more energetic in the 2nd half, but I still think it's ... read more

Huh, y'know "Atom Heart Mother" isn't exactly the first Pink Floyd album I thought I'd be reviewing, but upon learning that it was turning 50 today, I figured I might as well. I'll shit one out real quick, which you know is EXACTLY what that cow did after that cover photo was taken.

If you exclude the motion picture soundtrack to "Obscured by Clouds", this is by far the least talked about 70's album by these guys. I'm not entirely surprised by this, since it very obviously ... read more

Atom Heart Mother is undoubtedly the most unique Pink Floyd album. the s/t song is by itself one of the most elaborated and complex pieces made by the Floyds. After that it leads to 3 different songs, each made by one of the momebers (sorry Manson), And ends with a sound collage of a pink floyd instrumentation and a man cooking and eating breakfast.

Nothing else to say...

Fav: Allan's Psychedelic breakfast, Atom Heart Mother, Fat Old Sun

Now this is starting to sound like the Pink Floyd i know just with a little bit of traces of their experimental weird phase in Ummagumma.
This sort of seems like the experiment of sound that would lead to Meedle.

Out of all the Pink Floyd albums I've heard, "Atom Heart Mother" is probably the one that's most outlandish in its experimentation. Particularly on the opening and closing tracks, in terms of scope, structure and instrumental approach, the band truly curates a sound that is both distinct and engrossing and one that, most of the time, stuck the landing. On the opening titular track, the ideas presented are both complex and, in a sense, ingenious. They always defied the musical ... read more

Pink Floyd's 'Atom Heart Mother' (1970) stands as a pivotal testament to the band's multifaceted experimentation and evolution following Syd Barrett's departure. While its unconventional blend of genres and improvisations may not have foreshadowed the commercial triumphs to come, it captured a transitional phase marked by both brilliance and uncertainty, perhaps their last phase as cult heroes and the cool hipsters.

The title track, a sprawling six-part suite, showcases the band's fearless ... read more

I feel like i m in the countryside ( which is true cause i live in small village). It is first great Pink Floyd record. They done on it full turn to prog rock. Instrumentation is amazing. i love Orchestras help on Title track and Summer '68. Also on this project is first top 10 song in their discography, its title track. Second half like Ummagumma consist of solo works by members of band. Best ... read more

Re-review:
Everyone says one of two things about this album: they either say that this was Floyd's greatest accomplishment up to this point in time (some even go as far as to say that this is their best album, which is very, very wrong), or they say that this is one of, if not, their worst projects to date. Personally, I did used to think that this was one of their weaker projects, and while it still isn't my favourite, I do like it a lot more.

My main issue with Atom Heart Mother originally ... read more

Atom Heart Mother is a passive album in its 90%. The homonym song is an interesting composition fulled up with a lot of contrasting moments (some are boring and tedious), ending up with a great build up that feels so symbolic and teathrically great. Then, the 3 digerible songs are also good. If is a quiet and breaking melody; Summer 68' is one of the best songs of their early 70's experimental era, it is so gorgeous in every style it moves in; Fat Old Sun is another quiet melody that closes ... read more

This is my favourite album in the terms of category for projects that are underappreciated. Atom Heart Mother is Pink Floyd's underrated gem. I honestly find it incredibly frustrating that this album has been agreeably passed off as mediocre not to mention a really shit review from Metacritic which does not provide any concise points saying that the projects highs are It's lows. I got hooked into the 24 minute epic being the title track, all being done in one take directly split into separate ... read more

The critics are wrong. This record is a massive departure from what you would associate with pink Floyd but it truly is an excellent LP.

It has strong Mike Oldfield vibes which is why I probably like it so much.

Even Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast which is much maligned has a certain tweet charm to it.
