Rhett Mcgloughlin from Good Mythical Morning comes through with a legit pretty good country album with some really nice production and lyrics and kind of an interesting concept about separation of Christianity and church. And while sure, it may not be anything super special in the grander scheme of things for some people, but this is prob one of the better country albums I've heard this year. Rhett's vocals are legit really nice on the ears (except on "Kill a Man", I'm not entirely ... read more

Goddamn.

I don't think I need to tell you that music coming from YouTubers usually results in an assault on the ears, but Rhett McLaughlin took a route that I don't think I've seen someone in his position do before: he decided to take the road less traveled into the world of classic country. And not only that, he decided to make it a lite concept album as well, with it all centered around his separation from the church and Christianity as a whole.

I got pretty much everything I wanted out of ... read more

This was one of the most pleasant surprises I've heard all year! The potential that Rhett shows as a country musician is very strong, as his melodies, themes, and lyrical sentiments are extremely potent, memorable, and show quite a bit of character in the through line of the album, delving into themes of religious hypocrisy, crisis of faith, and self-doubt and worth in straying away from his own chosen path to God. I loved a lot of what I was hearing, but I would hesitate to call much of it ... read more

no but like, seriously. this is fantastic country music that i would love regardless of being a daily watcher of GMM for 7 years now.
When this project was announced i had zero clue how it was gonna sound or what to expect, but from the first single i fell in love. This is absolutely amazing country music. ... read more

As someone who is also fighting through a lot of religious trauma, this hit me very hard. Rhett is saying really important shit on here, and good for him. Good for him. Hope he's doing well today

I’ve never been one for country, but obviously I just wasn’t looking for the right kind, because this album is gorgeous. Rhett tells us about this extremely sensitive and personal topic for him and his family and makes the listener feel like it’s happened to themselves. Everything here is so heartfelt and it made me tear up at multiple points, especially the trilogy of songs about his family. The production is beautiful, Rhett’s voice is beautiful, the guest musicians, ... read more

Surprisingly sweet and nuanced with very clean and pleasant production. It lacks character or ways to separate itself sonically very much, however that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound good it is just very digestible. Sometimes the writing is a bit on the nose and bland which is to be expected from a debut album, however there are some moments that feel mature from a writing standpoint and this record certainly shows promise for a career if pursued.

Who would have thought this would be such a good album. I assumed I would like it just because I am a fan of Rhett, but I did not expect it to be a legitimately good album.

Fav Songs; Believe Me, Where We're Going, In Vain

Rhett, sure does a great job of using his voice to float over the serene ocean of calming production, even as a Human Overboard. Interesting concept coming from GMM’s own too.

A good collection of songs. Some are surely better than others. The album can be a little monotonous in the production and the songwriting, but the lyricism packs a punch. Even out of the context of knowing who Rhett is and having heard his story, this album hits hard lyrically. I would recommend to anyone who has experienced the same sort of spiritual deconstruction that is being described. The best tracks are probably Fruit, Sorry, and Only Thing.
