CRITIC REVIEWS

Distorted Sound

The End, So Far is a statement that the gloves are well and truly off as SLIPKNOT prove once again that they are at the top of their game as the unbridled standard bearers

85
Blabbermouth.net
SLIPKNOT are still evolving, still furious, and still an undeniable, unstoppable phenomenon.
80
NME
Aside from the blood, the gore, the theatrics and the noise, there’s clearly always been much more to the band’s ability to shock and surprise – and now it seems their next left turn of an era could be their most daring yet.
80
Classic Rock

The End, So Far feels like the fullest expression of what the nine are capable of since 2004’s Vol. 3. It’s the sound of a band returning to the apex of their creative potency.

80
Upset
It may not suit all, but in over two-decades Slipknot have never stopped burning down boundaries.
80
Kerrang!

It’s perhaps not as instantaneous as the debut, as vile as Iowa or as catchy as Vol. 3, but it offers depth, discomfort and danger to those willing to dive into the recesses of The Nine’s collective consciousness.

80
Metal Hammer

Nihilistic, challenging and as euphorically destructive as ever, The End, So Far is the sound of a band still carving their own path of sonic carnage, right at the top of their game.

80
Metal Sucks
The blend of the raw energy and quasi-violence of the band’s heyday with more prominently modern versions of their own brand of flair is an excellent way to usher in a new era while keeping the core intact.
80
The Telegraph
As they grow old (somewhat) gracefully, it’s gratifying to find them still able to explode so effectively with nihilism when they choose to.
80
Clash
Overall, ‘The End, So Far’ is a remarkable punch of sharp, sobering heavy metal. Slipknot yet again thrive in their signature darkness – however, there it no doubt that this album would be elevated by more cohesion.
80
The Line of Best Fit

With The End, So Far, Slipknot haven’t reinvented themselves, but returned to their roots with an older, wiser and more concise outlook, resulting in a record that chews its listeners up almost instantly, and spits them out an hour later feeling beaten, battered and ultimately, cleansed.

70
Metal Injection
It contains plenty of powerful moments, and successfully breaks new ground for Slipknot 27 years into their career. Now that they can pave their own path, here's to hoping they take more chances than ever before.
70
Crack Magazine
Throughout the album, Taylor’s voice is more confident than it’s sounded in some time. Instead of relying on pure fury, tracks like Yen allow Taylor to sit back and almost narrate proceedings, throwing in the odd Christopher Lee-esque chuckle for dramatic effect.
70
Exclaim!

The songs on this album aren't going to be overshadowing the classics that the band built their name on, but they'll sit nicely alongside them, and The End, So Far is a worthy addition to Slipknot's raucous arsenal.

70
AllMusic

The End, So Far may not be a home run, but it proves that the band are still in it to win it, even if they're playing the long game.

60
Spectrum Culture

Slipknot’s songwriting largely falls under the categories of “self-hating” or anti-authority,” and The End, So Far does nothing to shake that perception. If you’ve listened to Slipknot, you probably already know the song topics.

60
The Arts Desk
To describe it as business-as-usual would be to undersell the masked metallers's energy and sheer gutsy punch.
46
Sputnikmusic

The End, So Far is lack-lustre at almost every turn. That’s no understatement.

40
The Needle Drop
Slipknot's ambitions continue to expand with mixed results.
40
Record Collector
Peel away the gimpy masks and it’s really no crazier than a thoroughly filled-out risk assessment form.

Nice Job Slipknot, I thought you finally came back after the 2019 record but no, this is fucking terrible.

This album is literally everywhere, they tried so many things on this album, it fell flat on their face and it makes it once of the most boring fucking albums of this year, I hate everything on here and I don't care. This shit feels like they copied 10 other bands and mashed it into one shitty record. I'm glad your album got leaked, fuck you.

Remember Custer from Gray Chapter? This is basically Custer: the Album. Overused gang vocals, generic riffs, no spice to any of these songs outside of Yen - a track that negates these altogether and doesn’t come across as generic or boring.

Maybe MGK was right.

NO NUANCE REVIEW

Jesus, what happened to these guys? Slipknot used to have bite, now it’s like they don’t even have teeth. Even when they’re “experimenting” they still find their way to the same stale formula. Slipknot used to feel dangerous, now it’s like they’re basically radio butt rock but with masks.

What a nothing album. There are a few decent songs but most songs are forgettable and bland. Believe it or not somehow this used to be my favourite album. Now I don't give a shit about it.

Right... what was Slipknot thinking? After the very good album that was We Are Not Your Kind, they go and drop this shit, which, while isn't bad, is just so painfully mid.

Nothing sounds any different to what they've already done, and the rare attempts at experimentation failed miserably, imo, on the track Adderall (it really did not need an entire fucking ep, it's easily the worst track on here).

There are songs like Heirloom and Acidic, that try something somewhat different to what they ... read more
